What is Classroom Management?

Classroom management is perhaps the most important thing a teacher needs in their toolbox. Of course it is important to have very honed art skills and successful methods for teaching the art, but if a teacher cannot control their classroom, all hope is lost for the lesson being taught.

Classroom Management Tips:

• Make a plan and stick to it (consistency is key)

• Respect supplies, respect students, respect teacher

• Send documentation to parents (make sure you are in contact with the parents so they feel like you really care about the success of their child)

• Model teach (make a mini lesson for everything and have them practice until they can do it correctly)

• Make instructional videos

• Vary instructional methods (do something different every day. Color cards, attention getting kit, etc).

• One word method (don't use more words/energy than you have to to get a point across to students, they should be listening and understanding).

• Songs/chants/whole brain teaching

• Master visual ques (clean up maps, time timer)

• Labeling (with pictures)

• Picture of "how it should look"

• Build independence (ask 3 ask me: ask 3 friends then ask me)
