Chair Project
Project Description
For this project we were supposed to design a functional yet compositionally interesting and dynamic chair using steel rods and aluminum that we had in our Makerspace at Plymouth. Unfortunately COVID-19 interrupted our project and we moved to solely online classes, therefore our project requirements were reconsidered so we could make the best if it with what we had at our own homes. I still created sketches for my ideas, but instead of using steel and aluminum to build a life-sized chair, I used cardboard to make a smaller scale model of my design.
Lateral Thinking
I researched many interesting designs and I knew I wanted my chair to be unique. I was very intrigued by the throne from Game of Thrones. Thrones are just dope! However I knew working with steel and aluminum would be tricky, especially since I've never done ANYTHING like this. When the project shifted to working from home, I decided to make my design with cardboard, but in a way that it would still be possible to make it out of the steel and aluminum.
