In this demonstration lecture I will be teaching about some very fun and important things including: the Expressionism movement, landscapes and perspective, light, and the very popular Impasto painting technique! Below are some examples of the project my students will be making:
Expressionism
Expressionism was a modernist movement that originated in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. In an expressionistic painting the world is seen from a subjective perspective (personal feelings or opinions) and is often distorted to give it an emotional effect that is intended to bring to mind certain moods for the viewer.
Impasto
The style or technique of painting is what is normally used to evoke emotions, and one painting technique for doing that is called the Impasto technique! Impasto is when paint is laid on the canvas or surface in very thick layers so that you can actually see the brush strokes when it is completed, and gives the painting a very interesting texture! In this lesson I will encourage mixing the paint right on the canvas.
